“The death penalty is not about whether people deserve to die for the crimes they commit. The real question of capital punishment in this country is, do we deserve to kill?” – Bryan Stevenson, Just Mercy

California has more death row inmates than any other state with over 700 individuals on Death Row. California’s death penalty system is dysfunctional, exorbitantly expensive, and disproportionately affects people of color. This November, voters will face competing death penalty ballot measures. Prop 62 responds to this failed system by replacing it entirely with life imprisonment without parole. Prop 66 responds to this failure with a sweeping array of convoluted proposed “fixes.”

Hear more about these competing ballot measures from representatives of the Yes on 62 and No on 66 campaigns, as well as the poignant personal experience of Ricky Jackson, an Ohio man who was exonerated last fall after nearly four decades in prison for a 1975 murder he didn't commit. With 39 years in prison, he's believed to have served the longest time behind bars for someone wrongly incarcerated in the United States.
