SORRY THIS SESSION IS FULL
Thursday, July 23, 2020 • 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM • Online
How do we approach difficult conversations in our lives around racism and other systems of oppression, and specifically those arising in relation to the current uprising? What frameworks, tools, and interventions can support us to stay grounded and present as we connect with friends, family, and others about challenging topics? Using small and large group discussion, body-based awareness practices, and role play, we will practice together to build skills that can stay with us, especially as we support others in taking action.
Preregistration is required due to limited space, and we ask that registrants commit to attending for the whole time. We will close registration when we reach capacity, so if you are able to register, please plan to hold the time and join the workshop.
Members of the White Noise Collective will facilitate this online workshop. Requested donation is sliding scale $15-85. Funds raised will be distributed equally to the Sogorea Te Land Trust, Community Ready Corps, and Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective, with no one turned away for lack of funds. If payment is a hardship, please contact us at basebuilding@surjbayarea.org. Access Considerations: We will be talking in large and small groups, and offering experiential exercises. We will use the chat, as well as verbal communication. Closed captioning is not yet available. This workshop will be offered only in English, and we have not yet built capacity for translation to other languages. We will be inviting you into movement and/or movement visualization, reflection, and somatic and guided exploration of our inner worlds. Much of this would ideally happen in a private space - your own bedroom, home office, garage, etc, where you have some space to move around and where you will have no (or limited) interruptions from the outside world. We know this may be challenging for some, and trust you all to navigate your unique circumstances in the ways that work best for you given the realities of potentially living in shared space while sheltering in place, but if you have a room with a door that closes that you can use for this time together, or a way to avoid your housemates/lovers/family seeing you take awkward and vulnerable shapes with your body, please plan to do that! Please contact us at basebuilding@surjbayarea.org if your access needs are not met by this container. We are learning in this emergent time to engage with zoom and welcome your feedback and requests. As always, we are in ongoing learning to align with our commitment to disability justice. We may or may not be able to meet all needs at this time, and want to be in communication with you.
