SURJ Bay Area’s Youth and Family committee offers this five-part workshop series for anyone who is loving, nurturing, caring for, and raising up white children. This is an opportunity to continue and deepen your work from the Interrupting White Supremacy at The Root workshop. (please attend the workshop on June 2 or watch a recording, link available upon registration). We will examine how white supremacy and white racial socialization applies to our lives as individuals and adult allies to young folks. We’ll identify the ways that we perpetuate white supremacy within our family structures and practice disrupting this with each other.
The series will cover topics including white supremacy as it applies to parenting, state violence and abolition, and racism in education. We will also explore how somatics and mind-body alignment plays a role in raising anti-racist youth. Between sessions we will ask you to apply what you learned outside of the workshop by sharing age-appropriate books and/or videos with the children in your life and discussing the materials while learning alongside them. Through this self-interrogation, we hope to break the intergenerational narrative of white supremacy.
Closed Captioning will be available. Free, but please register. If you have any questions, including questions about accessibility, please email youthandfamilies@surjbayarea.org. Dates for series: 6/16, 6/30, 7/14, 7/28, 8/11 Time: 7-8:30 pm All sessions will be held via Zoom. In order to strengthen our sense of community as we work together, we ask you to commit to attending all 5 sessions. Comments are closed.
